Time to reach for the skies.
Meet the -148, or for the few of us who can’t read Cyrillic the Antonov An 148. Designed by Antonov in Ukraine and built by them and VASO in Voronezh in Russia, the 148 is a 75 seater regional airliner intended to replace various previous Antonov planes. Most of the 34 built have gone to Russia with a few to Ukraine and Cuba. The most recent one to be built has gone to that hotbed of freedom and democracy, North Korea.
The 148 and its big brother, the 99 seater 158, have been rather restricted by the inconvenient matter of the Russians fomenting a civil war in Ukraine and so Antonov, based in a country where many people loathe the Russians, have been making overtures to Poland, a country where nearly everyone does, with a view to making the plane more attractive to Western buyers.
This year Antonov have built the related An-178, a transport plane that first flew in May and got its first public airing at the recent Paris Air Show.

I’ve been reading how the Russians are having significant difficulties getting engines and spare parts for their aircraft, particularly Antonov cargo planes, from Ukraine. I guess they didn’t think their cunning plan all the way through.

Also restricted in competing directly with the Embraer 175/195 series of planes as well as the cheap as chips CRj 900 available....everywhere. Not many communist countries with money able to buy something that new unless subsidized by the manufacturer.
